This change in the rules opens up a whole new range of options for individuals with claims that, up until recently, wouldn’t have made sense to proceed on. The impact of this change will be particularly significant on wrongful dismissal matters and smaller business law suits.

Litigation in Vancouver may now be more accessible to those parties in the lower mainland that need to access British Columbia’s Court system. The new Rule 68 expedited litigation project is up and running in the Vancouver, Victoria, Prince George and Nelson Registries. Rule 68 limits some of the pre-trial procedure for claims under $100,000 and should ensure that claims get in front of a Judge in a faster and more cost effective manner.

Rule 68 will enable lawyers in Vancouver and the other BC areas to provide their clients with better service and litigate claims under $100,000 in a new and advantageous way. It’s definitely an option that should be considered in your litigation plan.
